FAST Water Saving TipsFAST Water Saving Tips
Looking for ways to save water—fast? These steps can help you pull the plug on water waste.
Fix leaks as you find them. A leaky faucet, toilet, water tank or sprinkler system can waste hundreds of gallons of water every day.
Avoid unnecessary water use. Some of the easiest ways to save water are the simplest. Don't run the water the whole time you're brushing your teeth or shaving. Don't run partial loads of laundry or dishes. Don't water your lawn in the heat of the day, when you'll lose more moisture to evaporation. Don't use the garbage disposal when you can compost or use the trash can. The EPA has dozens more suggestions for household water conservation here.
Shop water smart. Many modern appliances, faucets, shower heads and toilets use less water to do the same job as older, less efficient models. The next time you're in the market for a dishwasher or a better way to water your lawn, put water efficiency on your list of priorities.
Not sure where to start? Check out the EPA's WaterSense website. Much like the ENERGYSTAR label identifies energy-efficient products, the WaterSense program focuses on items that minimize water waste. Use the site's calculator to estimate how much water you'd save by adopting water-saving technologies. You may even qualify for a rebate!
Talk to your family about your commitment to water conservation. Even small children, making small changes, can help you achieve BIG water savings over time.
